Dr. Alhagi Manta Drammeh has a background in Islamic Studies and political science, particularly in the areas of Qur’anic hermeneutics and methodologies in dealing with Islamic sources, Islamic Political Thought, Islam in Africa, cultural engagement, Middle Eastern Politics, Muslim political movements, Foreign Policy issues in the Muslim world and the “West”, and Muslim-Western relations. Dr. Drammeh has previously worked as Lecturer of Political Science and Islamic Sciences at the International Islamic University Malaysia and was also a weekly Guest Lecturer at ABIM’s Islamic Outreach, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He worked as Lecturer at the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education from 2004 to 2014 where he assumed different management roles such as Head of Department from 2006 to 2010 and then became acting Director of the Graduate School from 2010 to 2014.
Dr Drammeh also served as a Senior lecturer at the Muslim College where he became the Academic Coordinator from 2015 to 2017. He is the author of the book, ‘The Fallacy of the Inevitability of Clash of Civilisations: a common ground for mutual understanding and co-existence‘ (IIUM Press, 2009). He has published several articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and edited books.
Dr Drammeh has successfully supervised many students at both MA and PhD levels in the areas of Islamic studies and social sciences. He has supervised and examined many MA and PhD students at various British universities as well as presenting academic papers on Islamic methodologies, Civilizational Dialogue, and Islamic Education in the UK, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Norway and the Gambia. He is hosted by media outlets on different aspects of Islam and Muslim communities in Europe, Africa and the Arab world.
He is currently Senior lecturer at the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education where he coordinates Islamic Studies programmes and units. He is an active researcher in Islamic spirituality, Qur’anic ethics and Islamic Thought. Dr Drammeh is also editor of Islamic Quarterly published by the Islamic Cultural Centre in London and is part of its Editorial Board.
