Relationship with Community
We have very close relationships with the local and wider Scottish community. We endeavour to contribute to this relationship at various levels and to benefit from how it enhances the education experience for our students and staff. Our College Council includes lay members from the local community with very high profiles, ranged from former Chief Executive of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, a former Lord Provost, a former MP to a current member of the House of Lords.
Further to our Open Lecture series, we also deliver a Senior Pupil Conference to the local schools and academies every year. Dundee school pupils attend 1-2 day conferences to discuss and debate contemporary topics related to Multiculturalism and Islam.
Established in 2009 the Al-Maktoum College Community Fund has helped a range of different organisations and community groups in the Dundee area.
We also successfully hosted a special training seminar for police in the Dundee area on the sensitive topic of policing terrorism while maintaining good community relations.
Furthermore, training seminars on topics relating to multiculturalism and Islam and Muslims were organised for staff from the NHS, the City Council and other community groups.
And through our Platinum membership with Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, we are fostering business links between local companies involved in the Middle East and the Muslim world.
We will actively continue to pursue and develop further initiatives to strengthen our role in the community.
