Al-Maktoum College Reaches 25th Overseas Education Programme Landmark

February 5, 2018

The 25th educational programme for overseas female students is now under way at Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education.

A total of 55, third and fourth-year students from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Malaysia who have arrived in the city for the College’s Academic Training Programme, were officially welcomed by Dundee’s Lord Provost Iain Borthwick at Dundee City Chambers on Monday, February 5.

The Lord Provost said: “These programmes have gone from strength to strength with visiting groups enjoying their visit to Dundee.

“I hope this latest group will feel equally at home here and on their study visits to other parts of Scotland.”

The first educational programme of this kind took place with a Summer School in 2003 and since then more than 1,100 students have made the trip to Dundee.

The Academic Training Programme is geared towards advancing the students’ overall learning and understanding of Scotland, its history, culture and traditions.

Study and debate on the challenges of global dialogue and exchange in the contemporary world form a major part of this programme

“We feel this 25th educational programme is very much a landmark occasion for the College,” said Dr Abi Abubaker, the College’s Director of Operations.

“This programme is in high demand because it is both stimulating and demanding in educational and cultural terms.

“We are very grateful, once again, for this warm welcome for the students from the Lord Provost.”

The students come Abu Dhabi University; Abu Dhabi Police College; American University of Sharjah; British University in Dubai; Cairo University; College of Islamic and Arabic Studies; Higher Colleges of Technology; University of Malaya; University of Sharjah; UAE University and Zayed University.
